How much have the Spurs left ?

Posted in NBA with tags , , , on November 11, 2008 by dunkonu

The San Antonio Spurs had a very slow start in the 08/09 season by losing 4 of there first 5 games. The Spurs used to be a powerhouse in the west in the past years, but i wonder if they are still able to dominate the same way in the new season. With Manu still sitting on the sideline after his operation, they don’t really have anyone coming of the bench helping the starters to score. Unfortunately Tony Parker rolled his ankle and is also out for four weeks. It really is a bad start for the Spurs and I’m wondering if they are deep enough to handle the loss of there two stars. I know they have 77 games left to play, but the western conference seams to be even stronger and tougher than last season so I wonder if they have enough left to get a spot in the playoffs this year.

Allen Iverson talking about Detroit

Posted in NBA with tags , , , , on November 6, 2008 by dunkonu

Allen Iverson

I’ve always been a fan of the Detroit Pistons, even though we had to play against them so much, but I became a fan by knowing how tough they were,” Iverson said. “These teams are all about heart, and I just think I fit right in with that.”

It’s definitely going to be a work in progress” he said. “I’d be lying if I said the chemistry will be there right off the top. [Coach Michael Curry] said the way they play is aggressive on offense and aggressive on defense. Obviously you know I can be aggressive on offense and just do the best I can on the other end of the court.”

I have a big-time resume, but I have a big hole in that, and that’s a championship, so obviously that’s something I want to accomplish,” Iverson said. “I have money, I have all the individual accolades, I’ve done all the All-Stars, the scoring championships, the MVPs, stuff like that.

“But I haven’t had a chance to feel the feeling of winning a championship, and that’s the most important thing for me right now.”

Devin Harris embarrassed in London Pt. 2

Posted in NBA with tags , , , , on October 20, 2008 by dunkonu

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here is the link to the 1st post (including the YouTube video): CLICK HERE

One of our readers told me that the story was first reported on Basketball247.co.uk, so I’ll take his word for it and post it here. You can check the page out, they have some NBA Europe Live Tour coverage and a few nice videos.

Anyway, here is a follow up to the story brought to you by In the ‘Zzone and the NBA Fanhouse. Here is what Devin Harris had to say:

“When I first went out there, they told me one of the Special Olympic kids wanted to play me one-on-one,” Harris said. “So I went down there, said OK, shot jump shots or whatever.

“So he hit the first shot, and I was like, ‘OK, he has a little talent.’ Then he just whipped out the other thing - I was kind of confused at the point with all these dribbling moves, and before I knew it he threw it through my legs and laid it up.

“At that point it was time to go. So they had fun with it, they got me pretty good. I didn’t expect it to be that popular, but it is what it is.”

What a set up.

NBA Europe Live Tour - Berlin

Well, tomorrow the Washington Wizards and the New Orleans Hornets will square off in the O2 arena in Berlin, Germany and guess what? I’ll be there. I’m really looking forward to seeing Chris Paul wreak havoc on the court.

Too bad that the Wizards lost half their roster to injuries, but these things happen. I hope the game will be as good as the Heat - Nets games in the last few days. Dwayne Wade was scary good and the Nets still won…one regular and one in overtime.

Last time I’ve seen a NBA game live, was two years ago in Cologne when the Suns and 76ers battled it out. Good times! 4 games in two days (1st day 76ers vs. Moscow, Suns vs. Tel Aviv - 2nd day Moscow vs. Tel Aviv, 76ers vs. Suns)…two best basketball watching days of my life. It was crazy and I hope that the Hornets and Wizards won’t disappoint.

I need to get up at 5am tomorrow to catch my plane to Berlin. I’ll be back in two days with some pics and hopefully some stories to tell. :)

Devin Harris embarrassed in London

White boy embarrassing Devin Harris (Property of the New Jersey Brooklyn Nets) on a London playground. I strongly recommend you watch the whole video. Let’s not waste too much time, here is the video:

I don’t know who found it first, so I’m linking to both: NBA Fanhouse and TrueHoop.

What happened is pretty amazing, not so much the handle, but the way they hustled Devin. Dude is a known baller in London (according to some sources you can find on TrueHoop) and he caught Harris by surprise. Too bad the game was over…Devin had no chance to get revenge.

Ellis Suspended - bad idea?

...vroom...vroom...

...vroom...vroom...vroom...

I hope you like the photoshop.

The Golden State Warriors suspended him for violating his contract -> 30 games without pay. His contract is worth 66 mil over 6 years (to make the math part easier let’s say it’s worth 11 mil/year without any %-based modifiers and stuff) - so the suspension will cost Ellis 4,125 mil $. I hope the moped driving was worth it…anyway, is it a good idea to suspend him for 30 games?

Nope, I don’t think so. Last time I checked the rosters, Golden State had 1 guard we can consider capable/good. Now, come on, let’s say that together, nice and slow: O-N-E capable guard. After losing Baron Davis to free agency, their backcourt took a big hit. Without Ellis, their backcourt will be one of the worst in the whole league. Who will start? Bellinelli and Dickau? CJ Watson and Azubuike? Are you kidding me? (Don’t get me wrong, I really like Azubuike. He will be a very good player in a few years and Watson is kinda of overrated for somebody underrated - confusing stuff.)

Even if Ellis was jumping out of airplanes without a parachute or telling a buddy to try and shoot him in the offseason - tell him you will tear him a new one next time he does that, but…you can’t afford suspending him. This business is about winning. Of course, you can’t let the players risk injuring themselves, but a 30 games suspension is way over the top.

Have you seen Bynum lately?

Posted in NBA with tags , , , , , on October 3, 2008 by dunkonu

He is a monster. Lifting weights was probably the only thing he did all year long, but he is definitely ready to trade blows with anyone.

Kobe looks so small next to Bynum. Are you kidding me? Looks more like Bynum brought his Kobe-look-a-like son to the photo shooting. Here is a pic from a year ago so you see the progress.

Michael Jordan & Charles Barkley

This one is about the relationship between Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley. The segment was aired during the 1991 series between the Chicago Bulls and Philly 76ers. Good times.
